My Amazing Trip to China part 2

Last month, I had an amazing trip to China courtesy of Designer Tadashi Shoji and Miss Octavia Spencer. Miss Spencer was the special guest of Mr. Shoji, who opened a flagship store in Beijing China. I was invited to come along and was thrilled beyond belief. I had never really thought I would get to ever go to China on a trip. I love traveling and sightseeing and to be able to see a few of China’s monumental sights was a treat. I wrote a nice blog for The BackpackCeo.com with pictures from the trip.

There was just so much fabulousness that I have a few more pictures below and added a video compilation (Thanks to Dimitry for putting it together) from the trip. I can truly say it was a trip of a lifetime!! Check out the video and then a few more images to get a peek into my trip!

My new obsession… Succulents

Growing succulent plants has turned me into a gardener, of sorts! In my college days I had a pretty good green thumb and had lots of indoor plants for decor around the house. Then suddenly, I couldn’t keep a plant alive no matter what I tried. So I gave up on growing plants.

But, then a friend gave me a piece of her jade plant succulent and I found that the drought tolerant plant was easy to grow. Succulents are low maintenance, eye-catching colorful plants that are easy to grow. Their drought tolerance makes them a perfect choice for the high desert that is Los Angeles and for folks who lack a green thumb like me.

So, now everywhere I go, I like to take pictures of succulents. Each plant looks like a sculpture to me and there are so many varieties, and amazing shapes and colors they are fun to collect.

My 5 Beauty Must-Haves for Spring

Spring is here and summer closing is coming fast and as the weather gets warmer, it is a perfect time to pair down our beauty routines. So, here are my 5 beauty must-haves to take you from spring through summer…. Actually, they are great favorites for all-year round use.

1 Facial Cleansing Cloths/Makeup Removers are a must. They are perfect for removing make-up, or just giving your face a freshening up on a hot day. The Equate brand from Wal-Mart is my favorite for the value (2 packs of 30 for half the price of other brands). These alcohol-free, hypoallergenic makeup removing facial towelettes contain chamomile, vitamin E, and triple tea, which rejuvenate your skin. And they don’t leave your face feeling dry and tight.

2 Brighten and protect your skin with a BB Cream. I like the Maybelline brand because It not only blurs imperfections, but it also brightens and evens your skin tone with sheer coverage like a tinted moisturizer. With SPF 30 protection, the Maybelline BB Cream also hydrates, enhances and protects your skin from the harsh rays of the sun. BB cream is skincare and makeup all in one step, which is ideal for those on the go.

3 I think eye cream is a must and one of my favorites is Murad’s Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for eyes. This super-hydrating cream infuses the delicate eye area with moisture for immediate and long term relief from dryness and Maintains optimal moisture levels for about 8 hours and is gentle enough for sensitive skin.

4 Tinted lip stain is my new mainstay. It gives a nice and long lasting color without being sticky.There are lots of brands to choose from, I like the Maybelline Super Stay 10.

5 My last must have are oil blotting papers.These sheets instantly absorb oil and transforms shiny skin into matte perfection. I love the Elf brand sheets for their value and soothing green tea extract.

My favorite Oscar 2013 Looks

It’s been a week since this year’s Oscar awards and as I looked at all the best dressed lists, they all had pretty much the same top pics for best dressed. Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture and Jessica Chastain in Armani Privé were among the favorites as well as Stacy Keibler in Naeem Khan, Naomi Watts in Armani Privé. and Halle Berry in Versace. I am happy to report that my friend Octavia Spencer, once again made the list with a gorgeous ethereal Tadashi Shoji gown.

My top pick of the night, however, was Charlize Theron in Christian Dior Couture. Not only did the dress fit her to a tee, but her hair and makeup were stunning. Especially, since she was sporting a short haircut.

But my real favorite picks of the night who wore bright primary colors were from Robin Roberts in a dramatic Marc Bouwer gown, Jane Fonda in a gorgeous Versace gown and Reese Witherspoon in a form-fitting gown by Louis Vuitton. These ladies really showed that color can be gorgeous on the Red Carpet! Way to go, ladies!

British Academy Film Awards 2013…..Red Carpet Style

Last year, I had the pleasure of finally going to London for my very first time, not once but twice. The second trip was for Octavia Spencer’s nomination and actual win of the 2012 BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards)!! As I grew up in Monterey, I always thought that the grey skies of London would be a turn off! It was quite the opposite!! The amazing old world architecture and the city’s energy was brilliant! And I am anxious to go back!

So, I am sitting here watching this year’s show…. I watched the show for the first time live from my hotel room last year and was struck at how funny and amazing this award show was! Stephen Fry, the host, was truly genius as he kept the show moving and made me laugh out loud lots of times. This year, Stephen, is again the host and it was not a fluke….. he truly has a command of the Award show format and is again delivering a funny and quick moving show. (We need to take notes for our Oscars)

So, here are my picks for the fashion and style that I noticed on the red carpet……. My favorite look was Helen Mirren in a goreous Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown and a fabulous short pink hairstyle! She shows that style has no age!! Black was a favored color, as Anne Hathaway showed in a simple black Burberry gown with silver accents, Sarah Jessica Parker’s black pantsuit and Sarah Silverman’s black halter top gown. Jennifer Lawrence kept it simple in a beaded strapless gown, while Jessica Chastain turned up the volume in a gorgeous royal blue satin gown. Thandie Newton was on trend with a black lace gown. So, part 1 of the season 2 reunion show of Basket Ball Wives LA aired last week and part 2 will air this Monday. I did Miss Gloria for last year’s reunion and was happy to hook her up again for this year’s reunion. She wore a white leather and chiffon dress so we felt like the make-up should be lots of lashes and eyeliner with a dark dramatic lip and a side swept wavy look for her hair.
